The function of the lightning arrester is to protect various electrical equipment in the power system from damage caused by lightning overvoltage, operating overvoltage, and power frequency transient overvoltage.
The main types of arresters include protective gaps, valve arresters and zinc oxide arresters.
The protective gap is mainly used to limit the atmospheric overvoltage, and is generally used for the protection of power distribution systems, lines and substations.
Valve-type arresters and zinc oxide arresters are used for the protection of substations and power plants. The system at 500kV and below is mainly used to limit the atmospheric voltage. In the ultra-high voltage system, find the one that will also be used to limit the internal overvoltage or make the internal overvoltage backup protection.
Lightning arrester classification:
1. There are many types of arresters, including metal oxide arresters, line metal oxide arresters, gapless line metal oxide arresters, fully insulated composite jacket metal oxide arresters, and removable arresters.
2. The main types of arresters are tubular arresters, valve arresters and zinc oxide arresters. The main working principle of each type of lightning arrester is different, but their working essence is the same, all to protect the communication cable and communication equipment from damage.
3. According to different classification basis, zinc oxide surge arresters are divided into many categories. Under normal circumstances, people will classify them according to the rated voltage value of the arresters, usually divided into high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage.
* High voltage category: it refers to the series of zinc oxide arresters above 66kV, which can be roughly divided into seven grades: 1000kV, 750kV, 500kV, 330kV, 220kV, 110kV, and 66kV.
* Medium voltage category: it refers to the zinc oxide arrester series products in the range of 3kV~66kV (not including 66kV), which can be roughly divided into four voltage levels: 3kV, 6kV, 10kV, and 35kV.
* Low voltage category: it refers to the series of zinc oxide arresters below 3kV (excluding 3kV), which can be roughly divided into four voltage levels: 1kV, 0.5kV, 0.38kV, and 0.22kV.
